Biography
Jeff Betz lives in Portland, Oregon and has been making masks for the past several years.Drawing inspiration from ethnic mask making cultures his approach is to create during the process and allow the mask to evolve as it will.
The foundation of the masks are paper laminate and mache usually over a sculpted clay mold. Adding to that a collage of materials either found, household or thrift items. Also wood, leather, fur, hardware or fiber is often incorporated. Oil, acrylic or enamel paints are used to finish.
All the masks are wearable but are intended more to be works of sculpture and collage rather than masks for party or masquerade purposes. Mask on!
